A 30-year-old male presented to the physician numerous times over the course of 4 months with complaints of congestion, fevers, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.Patient's March 29th visit was spurred by complaints of a rash and shortness of breath for at least 5 days.
Operation, Diagnostic, Or Treatment Procedure Rendered Causing The Injury
On the March 29th visit, the physician found evidence of an enlarged heart via x-ray and referred the patient to a cardiologist immediately.

Patient was diagnosed with infective endocarditis and a bicuspid aortic valve.Patient underwent valve replacement surgery, pacemaker insertion, multiple transfusions and hemodialysis.

It is the patient's contention that Dr. Secunda was negligent in not investigating his symptoms further.Mr. Castillo asserted that by the January 10th visit and each subsequent visit, the standard of care mandated additional evaluation and that had the endocarditis been diagnosed earlier, it could have avoided the harm caused to his heart.
