Severe chronic osteoarthritis left knee.
Operation, Diagnostic, Or Treatment Procedure Rendered Causing The Injury
Patient was admitted on 08/03/05 for left TKA due to chronic left knee osteoarthritis.The surgery was performed on 08/09/05without apparent complications. However, on 08/10/05, patient spiked a 105 temperature & blood cultures revealed a Serratia marcescens infection. IV antibiotics were subsequently initiated & she was discharged home on 08/16/05.However, during the time frame from 11/10/05 through 04/11/06 she required five additional hospital stays for treatment of conditions related to infected left knee prosthesis. Finally, on 03/09/06, infected prosthesis was removed & future plans were to fuse the left knee joint.
