Diagnostic Information

Final Diagnosis For Which Treatment Was Sought Including Patient's Actual Condition
Insured performed needed Gall Bladder surgery upon the decedent in early 2002. The surgery was indicated and patient was quite symptomatic for the surgery. Medical clearance was obtained by two different cardiologists prior to surgery. According to med rds, patient did quite well initially after surgery until about two days later when he began to have some significant difficulties. He appeared to have been under the care of the PCP and co-dfndt cardiologist. An ultrasound was performed, which showed that there was a blood clot in the heart and arrangements were being made to transfer the patient to a heart-intensive facility. Heparin was instituted. A Swanz-Ganz catheter was inserted to check on the hemodynamic status. Further diagnostic tests seemed to indicate that there was not a blood clot in the heart and, therefore, the patient was then moved to the operating room to attempt surgery in the early morning of the next day. Patient coded and died on the table prior to surgery being instituted. Post-surgery investigation and autopsy revealed that there was hemorrhaging around the area of the gall bladder.
