PATIENT PRESENTED TO DOCTOR OFFICE WITH AN ALLERGIC REACTION, AND HAVING DIFFICULTY BREATHING. DOCTOR AGREED TO PROVIDE PATIENT WITH DESPENSING OF CLARITIN. PATIENT KNEW DOCTOR AND WAS WORKING IN THE SAME OFFICE BUILDING WITH HIM. LATER THAT DAY SHE CAME BACK TO THE DOCTORS OFFICE STILL HAVING DIFFICULTY BREATHING AND HAVING A SEVERE ATTACK. DOCTOR HAD NEVER TREATED PATIENT AS A PATIENT BUT AGREED TO SEE HER AS A FAVOR. HE INJECTED PATIENT WITH A SOLUBLE CORTICOSTERIOD TO HELP HER BREATHE. DOCTOR USED A 1 1/4 INCH NEEDLE TO PROVIDE THE IM INJECTION. PATIENT DID NOT COMPLAIN OF PAIN OR SWELLING AND WENT BACK TO HER OFFICE AND LATER INFORMED DOCTOR THAT THE INJECTION WAS OKAY AND THAT SHE WAS DOING BETTER. PLTF WAS LATER DIAGNOSED WITH DELTOID ATROPHY AND REFLEX SYMPATHIC DYSTROPHY.

DOCTOR USED A 1 1/4 INCH NEEDLE TO PROVIDE THE IM INJECTION AND INSTRUCTEDPATIENT TO FOLLOW UP WITH HER PRIMARY CARE PHYSCIAN AFTER HE GAVE HER THE INJECTION.
