THE PATEITN UNDERWENT AND ELECTIVE CHOLECYSTECTOMY.SHE BECAME ILL THE EVENING OF SURGERY.THE INSURED WAS CALLED TO SEE THE PATIENT AND FOUND HER TO BE HAVING AN ACUTE UPPER GI BLEED AND HYPOTENSION THAT REQUIRED IV FLUIDS TO CORRECT.THE INSURED SUSPECTED THE PERITONITIS TO BE BILIARY PERITONITIS SECONDARY TO POSSIBLE BILE DUCT INJURY AND BILE LEAK AS A COMPLICATION OF THE SURGERY.A DIAGNOSTIC ENDOSCOPY WAS DONE THAT SHOWED ESOPHAGITIS AND HEMORRHAGIC CHANGES IN THE ESOPHAGUS FROM THE NG SUCTION TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE UPPER GI BLEED.THE PATIENT WAS TAKEN BACK TO SURGERY WHERE A BOWEL PERFORATION THAT OCCURRED DURING THE INITIAL CHOLECYSTECTOMY SURGERY WAS FOUND TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE PERITONITIS.SURGICAL REPAIR WAS DONE.THE PATIENT STARTED TO MAKE GRADUAL RECOVERY, BUT DIED SUDDENLY OF A PULMONARY EMBOLISM.
