Final Diagnosis For Which Treatment Was Sought Including Patient's Actual Condition
Hypotension, near syncope, generalized weakness & elevated white blood cell count with a past medical history significant for atherosclerotic heart disease, stent placement & permanent pacemaker with implanted defibrillator; sepsis secondary to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) bacteremia & possible infective endocarditis.
Operation, Diagnostic, Or Treatment Procedure Rendered Causing The Injury
On 01/18/04, patient suffered a fall with subsequent complaint of neck pain.The results of the CT of the head were negative.After further diagnostic testing, patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit where neurological deficits continued & flaccid episodes commenced.Patient was transferred to Tampa General Hospital on 01/19/04, & upon emergent myelogram, multilevel cervical stenosis with a complete block at C3-4 level was discovered.He was taken to the Operating Room for emergency decompression with post-traumatic spinal cord swelling leading to quadriparesis. Alleged failure to timely diagnose & treat a spinal cord or cervical disc injury, resulting in significant neurological deficits.
