Patient had a vertebral stent and a history of a prior CVA.Patient allegedly had recurrent TIAs on aspirin therapy alone, after placement of stent.Patient was taking Aggrenox and Pravachol. Patient sought treatment from Dr. Kraucak as regular treating physician. Patient was given pharmaceutical grade supplements in addition to presription medications. Patient's Aggrenox was later discontinued by another treating phnysician. Patient had a recurrent CVA within 1 month of discontuance of Aggrenox.Patient alleged that Dr. Kraucak discontinued Aggrenox (which he did not), decreased his Pravachol, failed to obtain patient's prior records or speak to his former neurologist before discontinuing and decreasing the medications, replaced the prescription medications with natural non-prescription medications, which caused the development of a CVA.

Safety Management Steps Taken by Insured to Make Similar Occurrence Less Likely
Although Dr. Kraucak believes that his was appropriate, Dr. Kraucak has determined that he will document in greater detail the content of his conversations with patients, his advice that they not stop taking their prescription medicine and is considering implementing a form which patients must sign which acknowledges that it is Dr. Kraucak's medical advice that they continue to take their presription medicines and that they use the supplements he has provided them to supplement, and not replace, their prescription medications.
