Diagnostic Information

Final Diagnosis For Which Treatment Was Sought Including Patient's Actual Condition
The claimant received a total left knee replacement for degenerative joint disease on September 21, 2004, and was prescribed a 20-day course of Lovenox therapy to prevent clotting. The claimant developed a vesicular rash on her back and groin following the knee replacement surgery.Dr. Mittal treated the claimant for the rash in the hospital, and Dr. Mittal followed Kish in the nursing home for her rash and for medical management, including her Lovenox therapy.
Operation, Diagnostic, Or Treatment Procedure Rendered Causing The Injury
Dr. Mittal monitored the claimaint's labs, which the surgeon ordered to be taken every five days following the surgery to check the claimant's platelet count.Dr. Mittal also monitored the claimant's rash which persisted, but the claimant did not exhibit symptoms consistent with Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. On October 6, 2004 the claimant's platelet counts apparently dropped below normal, but Dr. Mittal was not notified. On October 7, 2004, Dr. Mittal received a call from nursing home regarding the claimant's sudden onset of leg numbness and inability to move her legs, and Dr. Mittal ordered the claimant's transfer to the emergency room.
