Final Diagnosis For Which Treatment Was Sought Including Patient's Actual Condition
Mr. Mayer presented to Dr. Patel on referral for loss of vision in bottom portion of left eye for one week which progressed to the upper eye. There were no symptoms of GCA noted in any testing or history taken.Dr. Patel diagnosed Acute Optic Neuropathy, APD, macular Pucker, and ERM.Patient's vision did not improve, and after third visit, stated he had headache and was referred to Bascom Palmer Institute. He was questionably diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA). Testing ordered included MRI, CT, labs (no CRP) and ECHO, which were all negative except for the MRI due to cancellation due to the patient having a pacemaker.The final diagnosis was NAAION vs. GCA.Patient maintained partial left eye vision.No definitive diagnosis was ever obtained.
