The patient was suffering severe pain and discomfort from kidney stones.

The patient underwent cytoscopy with right retrograde, ureterscopy with laser lithotripsy and basket, with stent placement, to remove and treat patient's kidney stones.

Misdiagnosis Made, If Any, Of Patient's Actual Condition
The retained foreign body was not diagnosed immediately post operation.Following the 7/28/04 stent placement, the patient had intermittent complaints and the metal wire was found by CT scan on 9/12/05.
Principal Injury Giving Rise To The Claim
The retention of foreign matter, which was a piece of wire from the device used to remove broken up stone matter called the "stone cone".The retained metallic wire approximately 4cm long caused intermittent pain until its' removal on 9/12/05.
Severity Of Injury
Temporary: Major - Burns, surgical material left, drug side effect, brain damage.Recovery delayed.
