Principal Injury Giving Rise To The Claim
Patient presented to insured for severe pain in her feet.Treatment consisted of hydrotherapy along with multiple steroid injections into the heels and toe web spaces.By the next visit of 8/26, the left foot was feeling better; however, the right foot was still tender so a second injection was given to that area. On 09/09/11, patient had pain and swelling in her right foot.On examination, insured noted an area of cellulitis.Patient indicated that a physician at a medical center where she works gave her some antibiotics, Cephalexin, 250 milligrams.Insured added Ciprofloxacin, 500 milligrams.Over the next few weeks, patient continued to treat the infection; however, when there was little to no improvement, he made arrangements for her to go to the hospital ER.Following her initial hospital admission and discharge, patient was re-admitted multiple times and, at each visit, she was found to have recurrence of the infection.Patient was subsequently found to have mycobacterial infection and underwent a partial amputation of her third metatarsal.Patient claims the infection was caused by the steroid injections given by insured. She alleges insured was negligent with respect to the injections given and failing to timely refer her to a specialist
