Patient presented to hospital with hypocalcemia diagnosed on laboratory values. Insured gave verbal order for 2 mg of calcium gluconate via IV that was misinterpreted as calcium chloride. After pharmacy consult order was revised to administer calcium chloride over 2 hours. IV infiltration occurred leading to burn-like injury to patient's right hand.
