Poorly responsive, seizures. After 3 months of hospitalization, the patient was tentatively diagnosed with Bartonella henselae encephalitis and seizures secondary to the encephalitis.

None.

Misdiagnosis Made, If Any, Of Patient's Actual Condition
None. Diagnosis was extremely difficult in this patient after multiple and numerous consultations. Diagnosis of status epilepticus was promptly made but patient's seizure activity persisted despite what was believed to be approprite anti-convulsive therapy.
Principal Injury Giving Rise To The Claim
Cognitive deficits, post hospitalization, and intensive rehabilitation. The patient subsequently expired on July 2, 2005.
Severity Of Injury
Permanent: Death.
