Final Diagnosis For Which Treatment Was Sought Including Patient's Actual Condition
69 yo female admitted for chest pain. Cardiac issues were ruled out. She had a hx of mesenteric ischemia and mesenteric bypass surgery. The patient also had gastrointestinal complaints.

Dr. Bailey was called in as a GI consultant and noted the patientÂ¿s past history. He ordered a CT scan (which showed a bowel obstruction) and surgical consult.

Principal Injury Giving Rise To The Claim
The patient was taken for exploratory surgery where it was noted she had large areas of ischemic bowel. Bowel resection and lysis of adhesions were performed at the site of the obstruction. A temporary closing technique was used as the patient wasn't stable to complete surgery. She expired and was found to have gangrene of the entire bowel which was not compatible with survival.
