83 YEAR OLD MALE PATIENT DEATH. ALLEGING FAILURE TO ADMIT AFTER FALL WITH OCCIPITAL HEMATOMA AND NEGATIVE CT.
Operation, Diagnostic, Or Treatment Procedure Rendered Causing The Injury
Patient was diagnosed with closed head injury and confusion that resolved. He fell from an upright position while walking and had transient confustion after stumbling backward while holding on his walker and hit the back of his head with no LOC.
Diagnostic Code :
Misdiagnosis Made, If Any, Of Patient's Actual Condition
Exam was normal. Patient was discharged home after labs, Xrays, EKG and CT of the head was negative. He was discharged at 0309 with SDH, respiratory failure and altered mental status. He died. Radiologist reviewed the prior CT study and changed their interpretation.
Principal Injury Giving Rise To The Claim
Patient has long cardiac history of CABG, defibrillatior, pacemaker, mechanical valve on Coumadin.
