Final Diagnosis For Which Treatment Was Sought Including Patient's Actual Condition
This claim involved an allleged failure to diagnose and treat varicella in a 7-year-old boy. The child was brought to childrens Hospital, a subdivision of the Broward Hospital Dristrict. The child was brought to the ER with complaints of chest pain, dyspnea and a history of asthma. The child was addmitted and our insured Pediatric Gastroenterologist was called in to see the patient. He examined the boy and diagnosed the child with gastrits and possible peptic ulcer disease. He proscribed Zantac and ordered further GI work up. Then on 2-26-00 He performed an esophagogastroduodenhoscopy which revealed severe esophagitis. He then ordered a brush biopsy. The child was then transferred to another Hospital. The child expired on 2-29-00 at Hospital. The immediate cause of death was sepsis due to chicken pox.
