The patient , indidivually and on behafl of the child, suedmultiple parties including this on-call OB and his group.It is alleged the on-call OB fell felow the standard of care by nor ordering a C-Section immediately upon knowledge of excessively high BP, upper quadrant pain, and abnormal lab results.
Operation, Diagnostic, Or Treatment Procedure Rendered Causing The Injury
Patient, 26 weeks pregnant, presented to the hospital ED reporting high blood pressure and right upper quadrant pain.At time of presentation she was under the care of an obn and a maternal fetal mediocine physician and being treated and followed for chronic hypertension.On-call OB instituted a workup since this patient was not known and medical records unavailable.Meds were administered and an Ekg, ultrasound and lab wok were ordered.Pt'sBP remained elevat4ed and right upper quadrant pain worsened. She was diagnosed with chronic hypertension with an overlay of severe pre-eclampsia in addition to oligohydramnios and intrauterine growth retardation.A c-section was performed in order to save the lives of both the patient and child.
